  • Frequently Asked Questions

    • How soon will my pet be able to see after having cataract surgery?

Following cataract surgery, your pet should see immediately and vision will continue to improve over the next few weeks.
    • If my pet has to have surgery, how long are they hospitalized?

Our patients go home on the same day that surgery is performed. Your pet should not have to stay the night in the hospital unless there is a complication. We are located within an after hours emergency hospital so an overnight stay can be arranged if needed.
    • How much time should I allow for my appointment?

You should allow about an hour for your pet's initial office visit and 20-30 minutes for a recheck exam. In some cases, your pet's eyes may need to be dilated, which will add an additional 20 minutes to your appointment.
    • Does my pet need to be referred by my veterinarian to be seen by the ophthalmologist?

Yes, we are a referral only practice. Many eye problems can be managed by your general veterinarian. If your veterinarian is concerned about a complicated eye problem, he/she may recommend a referral for evaluation by an ophthalmologist.
    • Is anesthesia safe for my pet?

There are always potential complications associated with anesthesia, however, the risk is markedly reduced as we use the safest anesthetics available and monitor our patients very closely during and following surgery using state-of-the-art monitoring equipment.
    • Will my veterinarian be kept informed of my pet's eye condition?

Absolutely. Your veterinarian will receive a faxed summary of your pet's visit within 24 hours of the exam. We are committed to maintaining a close relationship with your veterinarian concerning your pet's care.
    • How can you find our clinic?

We are conveniently located on the south side frontage road of George Bush Turnpike between Alma Rd. and Custer Pkwy in Richardson providing easy access for anyone in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.
